Important Weekly Reminders and Information – October 5, 2017

PEIRCE ANNUAL BOOK FAIR: Wednesday October 18 & Thursday October 19 If you would like to volunteer, please sign up at: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d4eafa82ca2fe3-peirce . . . AND SAVE THE DATE!: Students get excited for this annual event that fosters their love for reading and supports Peirce School educational programs and technology. This year’s Peirce Book Fair will have a wonderful assortment of children’s literature available for your home and your child’s classroom. Your child can personally donate a book to their classroom by selecting a book from their teacher’s wish bin. Books will range in price from $4.99-$25.00. On Wednesday’s Family Night, there will be pizza and drinks for sale from 5pm-7pm. Enter a free raffle to win a book. If you have any questions, please contact: Patricia White, Cindy Chew, Jaime Mason, Kelly Salem and Jennifer Bekarian.
INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY: Friday, October 6 The Peirce community is an active participant in the National Safe Routes to School campaign designed to improve the health and well-being of children by encouraging them to walk and bicycle to school. October 6 will be the first of our monthly Walk/Bike to school days and is also International Walk to School Day. You should have received details about the related flag project last week in your child’s folder but attached is a copy if you need it Flag Project. If you would like to meet up with other students this Friday, Mr. Nye will be at the corner of Temple & Comm. Ave. at 8:10 and Sarah Keller will be at the corner of Prince & Temple at 8:10. Please contact Sarah Keller [email protected] or Tara Fitzgerald at [email protected] with questions.

PEIRCE MOM’S NIGHT OUT: Tonight!!, 10/5, 7:00pm-10:00pm Mark your calendar now and save the date. The event will take place at the home of Aimee Anderson at 319 Highland Ave. It is a great way to meet new friends and reconnect with old friends. Suggested donation of $10 to be paid at the door. Light appetizers and beverages will be served. Any Questions? Contact Aimee Anderson at [email protected] or Christina Sliwa at [email protected]. Hope to see you there!
HALLOWEEN COSTUMES/DRESS-UP CLOTHES: Do you have new or gently-used Halloween costumes/dress-up clothes that no longer fit your kids? Social Action and Student Council will be collecting these items for the girls and boys of The Second Step through October 20. It’s a great opportunity to make some children very happy this Halloween. Collection boxes will be inside both entrances of the school beginning Tuesday, October 10. (The Second Step partners with survivors of domestic violence to address the aftermath of abuse and build brighter futures for them and their children)

SAVE THE DATE — PEIRCE MYSTERY DINNER: Please put Saturday, November 4, on your calendar! We hope you can join us for this annual community-building event that is always a fun adult night out. Cocktails begin at 6PM — Tickets will go on sale next week! We are in need of a family to host the dessert party as well as a number of families to host individual dinners. Please contact us if you are interested or have questions. Thank you! Lauren Dictenberg [email protected], Renata Butterfield [email protected], Noreen Martin Herzog [email protected], and Prachi Samudra [email protected].

BOX TOPS!: Want to help Peirce students and Mr. Nye without spending any time or money? Clip box tops, bring them to school and drop them in the box either at the front door or back door. Mr. Nye gets money toward new gym equipment for every box top collected! Mr. Nye will collect them all year, but our first submission is at the end of October! IT’S AN EASY WAY TO CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR CHILDREN’S HEALTH AND FITNESS!

FYI…NO ACTION NEEDED:

PEIRCE DIRECTORIES: A hard copy of the Peirce Directory will be going home in backpacks this week. Huge thanks to both Renata Butterfield for putting this year’s online and hard copy directories together, and to Mike at Minute Man Press in West Newton who turned the project around quickly, and gave Peirce a very generous printing price.

SODEXHO SURVEY: The Newton Public School district is committed to providing a high quality food service experience for our students and families.
