Welcome back, Peirce families! It’s hard to believe we are already in the final days of April. The PTO has a lot of community events coming up in the next 6 weeks, starting this week with Green Week at Peirce! Please see below for some Earth Day activities that Ms. Smilie has put together for our kids.
Tuesday, 4/29:
Peirce Clean-Up Day both before and after school. We will be in the field with bags and gloves to pick up trash for 20 minutes before school and 20 minutes after school. Parents can drop off their kids in the morning (7:50am or later) or stay and help. Parents must collect and accompany their kids in the afternoon, unless the students walk home on their own (in which case they can come unaccompanied). We will be there until 3:10. If any student is unable to participate during these times, but would like to help out, we will have bags and gloves available during afternoon recess. The PTO will provide some treats in the morning as an added bonus! Sign up here.
Wednesday, 4/30:
Dress in green and blue! Celebrate the earth by dressing in earth colors. If you don’t have green and blue clothes, wear flowers, or brown, or a t-shirt about our planet….
Thursday, 5/1:
Decorate our hardtops with sidewalk chalk. There will be chalk available during morning and afternoon recess. This is also May Day, so it’s a great day to draw flowers!Friday, 5/2:
Tell us how you can take care of the earth. We will pass out leaf-shaped sticky notes for students to write down how they take care of the earth. Do you recycle? turn out lights? Compost? Ride your bike or walk places? Work in a garden? The leaves will go on the green team bulletin board so we can read them and get inspired by each other.
Sunday, 5/4:
All Peirce families are invited to participate in the annual NewtonSERVES program and help with a spring cleanup of the grounds at Peirce this Sunday, May 4th, from 1pm to 4pm. It’s a great way to join other Peirce and Newton families, show your school spirit, serve your community, and have fun getting your hands in dirt! Among other things, we will be cleaning up the planting beds around the school, spreading mulch, and adding wood chips to the Kindergarten playground. No special skills are needed! The PTO will provide pizza, but please bring your own water.
Families are invited to sign up for a shift or stay as long as they can! To assist with planning, please SIGN UP HEREand let us know when you can come! In addition, we welcome any gardening equipment you might have (wheelbarrows, sheers, rakes) – we will gladly borrow these items and return them at the end of the day.Abby Blake & Erica ChamberlainPeirce PTO Co-Presidents
