Dear NPS Families, One week from today, Newton voters will make a decision on the two debt-exclusions and one operational override question that are before them. Early voting has already begun in Newton and we know that you and your friends and neighbors are making choices about the future of our schools and community. I continue to receive questions and requests for information about the override, and more specifically, how it will impact both individual schools and the district as a whole. There are a few more opportunities to learn about the override between now and next week. Please consider attending any one of these meetings to learn more about NPS and City budgets and funding sources. I will be sharing information at the following PTO meetings: Lincoln-Eliot Elementary: 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023 Newton South High School: 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 Underwood Elementary: 7:00 p..m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 Angier Elementary: 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023 On Wednesday, March 9, 2023, the City has organized a Town Hall at Horace Mann Elementary (225 Nevada St.) at 6:00 p.m. This Town Hall is a terrific opportunity for all NPS families to learn more about funding and to ask questions of the Mayor, city staff, and NPS district leadears. Thank you for continuing to ask us questions about how we hope to support your students now and into the future. I look forward to having more clarity on our NPS budget next week. Sincerely, Kathleen Smith Interim Superintendent 100 Walnut St., Newton MA 02460 (617) 559 – 6000 www.newton.k12.ma.us |
