Peirce PTO Seeking a Newton-based Volunteer to Support Peirce METCO Students & Families

Due to the recent relocation of our previous co-chair, the Peirce PTO is seeking a METCO Co-Chair (Newton Resident) to help support METCO students at Peirce. METCO is the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity, a state-funded program designed to eliminate racial imbalance through the busing of children from Boston to public schools in neighboring suburban districts.

Job Description: The Newton METCO Co-Chair will help raise awareness of issues relevant to students in the METCO program and work with the Boston Co-Chair to oversee the METCO Liaison Committee. The primary goal of this board position is to strengthen ties between our Boston-based families and Newton-based families. They will serve as host for onsite afterschool care at Peirce for Boston-based students for school community events that take place after school hours (likely 2 this spring). This is a PTO Board position so you’ll be asked to attend monthly PTO Board meetings (about 1.5 hours / evening meeting) There’s also an estimated time commitment of 3-4 hours per school event. If you’re interested in volunteering or have questions, please email our FORJ co-chairs Lauren Dale or Claudia Arno, or the PTO. Click here to learn more about METCO in Newton.
