In this time of giving, we are reaching out to you today to share an opportunity to support one of our own Peirce families…
The Peirce community is coming together to support one of our own families in need. The family immigrated to the U.S. three years ago to seek support and services for their son who has Cerebral Palsy and is now a student at Peirce. He joined the Peirce community just before the pandemic began and has two younger siblings, including one who will be joining us at Peirce next year.
The family needs support for their son in the form of Pediasure and Huggies, items which are not accessible through their insurance at this time. Their son also has frequent doctor appointments, but the family does not yet have a reliable form of transportation. It was brought to our attention that for some time now, school staff have been paying for ride sharing services in order for the family to get to their son’s appointments in Newton and Boston. A social worker at Peirce is currently working to help the family get a car on the road and maintain it, which will be a much more cost-efficient option.
If you would like to give a donation to support this Peirce family, you can choose to help in two different ways:
- By purchasing Pediasure and Huggies through this Amazon Wish List (note: If you find better pricing for these specific items elsewhere, please note the quantities you purchase on the Wish List by clicking on “Buying this gift elsewhere?” and drop off boxes at school.)
- By contributing monetarily via this GoFundMe. The family will use the money raised through this effort to support the costs associated with registering, insuring, and maintaining a car. The GoFundMe funds will be collected by Kathryn & John Thorndike and sent directly to the family. Gifts to this fund are not considered charitable deductions for tax purposes.
Several families in the Peirce community are also experiencing more hardship than usual this year and so we’ve also added gift cards for each family to the Amazon Wish List. We hope this will help make their holiday season a little brighter. Please consider purchasing a gift card through the Amazon Wish List for one of these families by Wednesday, December 15th.
We want to acknowledge that we don’t often reach out to the community with these types of requests, but these are unprecedented times and these families are facing unique hardships. We hope you’ll join us in supporting them, in any way you choose, and we appreciate the generosity and goodwill of our community members.
Thank you.
