From the Peirce PTO re: NPS Strike Communication

Like many of you, we were saddened to learn of the NTA vote to strike this evening. We hope you all have received the communications sent out by the Superintendent as well as the School Committee regarding the closure that begins tomorrow. We hope that all sides can quickly come together to find a resolution that is amicable to all. In the meantime, we will share the few updates we have below. If anyone has questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Daily updates on the strike and closures will come from the Superintendent. 

Peirce Teachers
Our Peirce teachers will be standing outside our school tomorrow morning beginning at 8:30-9am and then will move to another location in West Newton Square for the day. Families are welcome to show support for them (signs, hand warmers, hot beverages, beep your horn – all would be appreciated)!

Childcare Coverage and Activities:
We wanted to share a few resources that we are aware of which have made accommodations in their programming tomorrow in light of the strike:

Food Service 
Newton Public Schools will offer Grab and Go meals, similar to what we did during COVID. The meal will include three days of breakfast and lunch. Please note the dates and locations of pick ups below:

Dates (strike may not continue, but planning is in place)

  • Friday January 19, 2024 (3 day breakfast and lunch)
  • Monday, January 22, 2024 (3 day breakfast and lunch)
  • Thursday January 25, 2024 (4 day breakfast and lunch)

Location and time

  • Newton North (457 Walnut Dr.) – Tiger Drive 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Newton South (140 Brandeis Rd.) – Wheeler entrance 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • METCO Headquarters (for Boston Families) – 11 Roxbury Street, Boston, MA 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
