Peirce Fun Run in Support of JB’s Keys

Hi Peirce!

The Community Impact Committee is excited to share that the annual tradition of the Peirce Fun Run will once again be held on Color Day (Wednesday, June 8th)!  For those new to the community, Peirce has an annual Fun Run during which children run laps around the field in a “marathon” to raise money for a special cause.

This year, we are proud to support a local organization whose mission directly impacts a Peirce family and many other families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  Eytani Ganot is a fifth grader in Ms. Carey’s class who is living with Duchenne, a rare, progressive muscle-wasting disease that affects approximately 10,000 people (almost all boys) in the United States. All funds raised through the Fun Run will go directly to JB’s Keys, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) while appropriating funds for quality of life, care, and research; ensuring affected children will have better opportunities during their lifetime. JB’s Keys organizes adaptive activities for local Duchenne families – including wheelchair soccer, adaptive skiing, sailing, and floor hockey – giving families opportunities to take part in sports and activities that would otherwise never be possible. In fact, on many spring and summer weekends Eytani and JB, the boy the organization is named for, meet to play power (wheelchair) soccer together with others affected by this condition. JB’s Keys also provides essential funding to the Duchenne Program at UMass Medical Center, a clinical and research site providing the best care possible to the Duchenne community while urgently advancing research to improve outcomes and new therapies. To learn more about JB’s Keys, please visit www.jbskeys.org.

To support this effort, please work with your children to ask family and friends to sponsor their participation in the Fun Run with a donation.  Our fundraising goal is $6,000!  It sounds like a lot, but we have done it before!  We’re hoping each student can raise a minimum of $25, but every little bit helps and participation is optional.

Attached to this note is a Fun Run Pledge Form.  Sponsors can donate per lap or a set amount.  Please make sure that your child documents all donations – cash, check, or electronic payment – using this form.  This will ensure they will get credit for funds raised.

Ways To Donate:

  • Cash… place in labeled envelope with pledge form
  • Check… made out to Peirce PTO and placed in labeled envelope with pledge form
  • Venmo… to @Peirce-Treasurer (add student’s name and “Fun Run” in transaction details)
  • Zelle… pay to [email protected] (add student’s name and “Fun Run” in transaction details)
  • PayPal… to paypal.me/PeircePTO (add student’s name and “Fun Run” in transaction details)

Once your pledges are collected, ask your child to put their collected donations and pledge form in an envelope labeled with their first and last name.  Remember to have your child hand in their pledge form even if all your donations are made electronically. Envelopes can be dropped off with Mrs. Carey in the front office.

All donations must be received on/by Wednesday, June 15.  We will announce the final amount raised once tallied and send all donations directly to JB’s Keys.  Please email Jordana Bluestein ([email protected]) or Pam Sarian ([email protected]) with any questions about the Fun Run.

Thank you in advance for your support — we can do this!

PS – Hard copies of the letter and pledge forms are going home with students soon.
