We Need You – Spring Volunteer Opportunities (starting Tues, 4/13!)

We are so grateful to the many members of our community who volunteered to organize and support events and activities this year.  As we look ahead to the final months of the school year, we have a few more opportunities – some familiar and some new – for parents and caregivers to be involved.

Please read below for more details.

SIGN UP TODAY

Picture Day — Tues, April 13th. School staff have requested volunteer support to help manage the logistics of Tuesday’s in-person student picture day. Volunteers will be outside (weather permitting) monitoring the photographer’s progress and communicating with school staff about when the next class should arrive, ensuring proper spacing and distance between groups.  SIGN UP HERE.

Family Events for Each Grade — May-June weekends. In place of our traditional springtime Peirce community events (Movie Night, Multicultural Night, Family Dance), the PTO is seeking volunteers to organize grade-level family gatherings outdoors during weekends in May and June.  Since coming together as an entire community is not yet permissible, these smaller events will give families an opportunity to socialize, reconnect with other families in the grade, and celebrate the end of the year. Volunteers can customize activities based on the age and interests of the kids, and the PTO will allocate a budget to each grade to cover event costs (classroom funds raised by room parents may also be used). Think soccer games, dance parties, chalking, individually-packaged snacks and drinks…  SIGN UP HERE.

For 5th grade parents, if you would like to help organize activities with the 5th grade committee, please contact Adriana Dukakis ([email protected]) or Prachi Samudra ([email protected]).

SIGN UP LATER

NewtonSERVES — Sun, May 2nd. Participate in the annual NewtonSERVES program and help with a spring cleanup of the grounds at Peirce. It’s a great way to join other Peirce families, show your school spirit, and serve your community.

Among other things, we will be cleaning up the planting beds around the school and planting new shrubs and flowers.  No special skills needed!  Look out for the Sign-Up Genius!

Book Fair — Thurs-Fri, May 6-7th. We’re excited to share that the Peirce Book Fair will be held outdoors in May!  As in past years, we are requesting volunteers to support each classroom’s visit to the fair – to ensure safety protocols are followed (including that students stay in the designated Book Fair area) and to help them select good-fit books. New this year, parents will be asked to create and fund online accounts prior to their students’ visits to the Book Fair. This will allow for cash-less transactions and eliminate the need for volunteers to assist with payments. Look out for the Sign-Up Genius!
